PROPOSAL ROCK ehk KIHLAKIVI - nii ma ta nime eesti keelede tõlkisin -  vaatas otse me apartemendi akendesse. Kohalik legend (loe inglisekeelset teksti allpool) meelitab kohale armunud paare, saareke on tunnistajaks olnud lugematutele abieluettepanekutele. Mõõna ajal pääseb saarele kah. Püstloodis kallas teeb tipu vallutamise küll keeruliseks, kuid mitte võimatuks.
Novot.

OREGONI RANNIKU KUULUS KUMMITUSMETS on kohe kihlakalju kõrval, seegi paistis meile tuppa kätte. Arvata 2000 aastat tagasi niitis maavärinajärgne hiidlaine hiiglaslikud sitka-kuused jalult, puujäänused aga ei erodeerunud sajandite jooksul, säilisid ookeanipõhjas kenasti. Paljastusid alles 1997-98 aastal, Oregoni rannikut erakordse tugevusega räsinud talvetormide ajal. Mõõnaveega on sadakond kummituslikku kändu nüüd kenasti näha.
Esimesed kolm fotot laenasin veebist, kuna sügiseti pole rannikul päikeselist pildistamis-ilma just volilt võtta. Neljas ja viies pilt on tehtud me toas ja terrassil, Kihlakalju hästi näha.

NESKOWIN GHOST FOREST. Back in the winter of 1997-98, a series of storms hit the central Oregon coastal town of Neskowin. The turbulent weather unearthed what is known today as the Neskowin Ghost Forest, the remnants of an ancient sitka spruce forest. The stumps of the Ghost Forest have been estimated at approximately 2000 years old, and when they were alive, the trees are thought to have stood 150-200 feet high.
Scientists believe that the forest was ultimately destroyed as a result of an earthquake or tsunami, and the remains eventually buried deep. The event that destroyed the forest also helped to save the stumps by burying the remains, thus being preserved rather than eroding them away over time. The unearthing of the Ghost Forest results in a mysterious and beautiful sightseer’s dream. When the tide is out, some 100 ancient stumps can be seen rising out of the beach and incoming waves.

JUST NORTH OF THE GHOST FOREST IS PROPOSAL ROCK, named for the 19th century marriage proposal of Charles Gage to Della Page.  The details are light — and change depending on the source, as legend mixes with fact — but what's important is that one day in the late 1800s, these star-crossed lovers headed out to a basalt sea stack above the Pacific Ocean and decided to get married.
Proposal Rock is an island just at the edge of the ocean. When the tide is completely out, you can reach the island and climb a short trail to the top, where you will find a small, secluded forest, and at the westernmost point, an amazing view of the open Pacific Ocean and the Ghost Forest below.
