"DID YOU? DID YOU? DID YOU DID YOU DID YOU??" hüüab myna-lind. Mkmm, ma ei liialda. Täpselt niimoodi, inimkeelele sarnaselt see kõlabki. Et Paulile ja mulle meeldib ümbritsevat ümber ristida, sai myna otse loomulikult nimeks Did You Bird.
Mynad on kuldnokalised. Agressiivsed, jultunud linnud, Hawaiile sissetoodud liik, suhkruistandustes taimekahjurite hävitamiseks. Mynad said toona ülesandega hiilgavalt hakkama, tänapäeval on nad aga pigem nuhtlus kui õnnistus, muu hulgas levitavad haigusi ja kahjustavad ehitisi. Üks mynapaar pesitseb meie hotellirõdu kõrgusel, kookospalmi lehtede vahel. Ajavad seal häälekalt omi asju, vahel käivad rõdul istumas kah.

“THE COMMON MYNA is not at the top of everyone's favorites list. It was brought to Honolulu in 1866, in an effort to combat an agricultural pest, the cutworm moth, which was wrecking havoc on the sugarcane crops. The mynas were successful, as was their adaption to urban and suburban habitats; they quickly established themselves on neighboring islands.
Mynas are striking looking birds, with their bold yellow legs and eye patch. Their confident, even cocky manner of walking instead of hopping can be amusing to watch. Highly territorial, they make their presence known through a variety of squawks, clicks, whistles, growls and chirps. Their range of vocalizations is pretty amazing.”
