/…/ BEND, OR. Weekend storm hit Central Oregon with plenty more snowfall Saturday, then a dangerous "wintry mix" including freezing rain Sunday, leading to numerous slide-offs and crashes, and closing the Redmond Airport runway.
The city of Portland closed its community centers and indoor pools due to the conditions, and many other attractions were closed as well, including the Oregon Zoo.
Travel is very challenging if not dangerous over much of Oregon.
Snow and sleet were making for treacherous roads over much of the state, with Oregon State Police warning that they can't keep up with all the crashes. Whiteout conditions and deep snow drifts prompted the closure of several highways in Eastern Oregon,
Driving conditions got so hazardous that ODOT required chains along Interstate 5 in the Willamette Valley from Eugene to Wilsonville Saturday afternoon. The chains requirement extends from milepost 186 south of Eugene to milepost 282 in Wilsonville. The requirement will be in place until conditions improve.
All vehicles with a gross vehicle weight above 10,000 pounds must use chains, officials said. Traction tires are allowed in place of chains on all vehicles under 10k gross vehicle weight, including passenger vehicles, and not towing. All towing vehicles must use chains./…/
