PAGULUSEST JA PAGULASTEST.
Hea sõber saatis lingi arvamusartiklile.
Lukase lahminime Taasiseseisvumispäeval ajas, kurat, minu immigrandi-harja turri.
Inimesed lahkuvad erinevatel põhjustel, ajast aega on riigist riiki rännatud. See, kas, kuhu ja millal rännata, kas seda teha sildu põletades või alles jättes (Lukas viibutab sillapõletajate suunas näppu) on igaühe isiklik valik. Tänapäevaseid Eestist minejaid mugavuspagulasteks, veelgi enam - LODEVUSpagulasteks nimetada - ai-ai-ai Tõnis, see oli sinust küll väga inetu ja rumal.

Tõnis Lukas PISSED ME OFF. Who, you may ask, and why? Well the long story short - he's well known Estonian, former politician, currently Director of Estonian National Museum. Yesterday was Estonian Independence Restoration Day. Lukas gave a speech, talking (among another things) about emigration from Estonia. The part that pissed me (and many other Estonians) off was his comment on nowadays emigrants. He said they shouldn't leave, calling them "Convenience- and indolence-refugees. Unlike those, who left Estonia during WW II." Pardon me Mr Lukas, would you yourself like to go through immigration process, in the United States for instance? It's expensive, stressful and quite humiliating. Been there, done that. It would have been so much more 'convenient' and 'indolent' for me to stay in Estonia.
Reasons why people leave one or another country are countless. Humans have been moving from country to another since the very beginning of ages. It's everyone's free choice, to stay or to go.
Well today Lukas is of course justifying himself, saying his words were taken 'out of context' etc etc - you know, typical politician's BS. Also, I somewhat understand his worry - there's only a bit over million Estonians so the country would become pretty empty if people keep leaving. But, Tõnis, the bottom line is: it was a very, very stupid and hare-brained thing to say. Gee, I feel so much better after venting!
